HEALING REALLY WORKS!

WHAT IS HEALING?
Healing is an actual energy for change. It can be given through thoughts, wishes or prayers. Healing has been given many names, such as "prayer healing," "mental healing" (used in medical references), "spiritual healing," "shamanic healing" and more - testimony to the rich varieties of human explorations of this way of offering help, in every nation and culture around the world.

HEALING RESEARCH
A large body of research shows that healing actually works. Healing can help with many problems. Prayers, Therapeutic Touch, Reiki, and other healing methods have produced significant effects on anxiety, depression, physical pains, heart problems, arthritis, AIDS, skin wounds, and more

Meditation may reduce violence and crime, as shown by studies of Transcendental Meditation in the capitol cities of the US, the Philippines, and India.

Skeptics have suggested that healng is just an effect of suggestion, expectations or wishful thinking. The significant results in these scientific studies - in humans, animals, plants, bacteria, yeasts, cells in laboratory cultures, and enzymes - show that healing is much more than a placebo.

HEALING FOR 9-11 RESIDUES
9-11 was a global explosion of awareness.

9-11 fallout has been so traumatic because it threatens our sense of security. Before 9-11, we in the USA and in many other parts of the world thought we were safe from personal attack and harm. 9-11 shows that this is not so. No one can know when or where another attack might occur.

Sending healing for the hurts, fears and angers we are still feeling from 9-11 can be a help - to the victims and also to the many people who were traumatized by witnessing the events of 9-11.

Seeking deeper understanding of our fears can help us to deal with them - personally, inter-personally, and on national and international levels.

HEALING BEYOND 9-11
Healing may help to bring about changes in our relationships with other peoples and nations around the world.

Healing is also needed for our planet. We are using up our resources and polluting at rates that will leave us without adequate food, water or even decent air to breathe - if we do not heal the ways in which we relate to our land, our waters, and our air.

9-11 is a 911 emergency environmental abuse call. We must respond urgently to the need for resolving issues of self interest that lead to abuses of the environment. We must address conflicts of interests between peoples and nations that obstruct our urgent responses to these abuses.

Unresolved, these problems will surely contribute to further desperation that will feed and breed terrorism.

9-11 is a 911 emergency domestic violence call. The US government, responding to the terrorist attacks, is responding by abridging the rights of its citizens in dangerous ways, with serious present abuses and dangerous potentials for much greater abuse. We are killing innocent civilians. We are generating more angers that will breed more terrorism rather than less.

9-11 is an urgent call to examine ourselves. Healing can help us reach new levels of awareness about ourselves, our relationships with each other and our place in the world.

HEALING SUGGESTIONS

The following pages invite you to consider many ways in which we can bring healing into the world, in each of the three streams of problems.

Re-examining our international relationships

Seeking ways to build a more healing world, in which another 9-11 is less likely

Asking ourselves personal questions about where we are in relation to 9-11 and what 9-11 has awakened inside us
